Many 'Aha moments' in this for me, Nathan. I have been road-tripping a lot, since returning to USA. I have had the benefit to see patterns across many states and Canadian provinces. It does indeed feel like the circle is tightening and people are very very suspicious of those outside of their self-declared 'circle'.

One aspect that I find particularly creepy, is that Meta seems to be replacing reality for most people. In other words, if you don't see it or talk about it on Meta, then it can't be real.

On the other hand, leaving social networks is like scrambling into a lifeboat after the Titanic has been breached by the iceberg and the band plays on. You know you've done the right thing but try to convince those in the dining room, that they need to scramble into the raft!

I think as the circle tightens, it becomes less and less about warning others and more and more about ensuring that those we love and are under our direct care are safe and up to speed on how to best navigate what is coming. To do that, I continually focus on cultivating their inner Logocentric character and teaching them critical thinking skills to spot contradictory information and behaviors in themselves and others, to reinforce weak spots.
